I do academic activism and on the 19th of October I am presenting a paper at the IV Jornadas Nacionales de Sexología. I want to talk about our desire, attraction and relationships as NB (Non-Binary) people living in Spain regardless of our place of origin. I also want to raise the need to know our experiences and how to generate sexological practices that do not (further) violate our experiences.

Last year Alana, supported by their lawyer Olga Burgos, achieved a ground-breaking sentence from the High Court of Justice of Andalucia (TSJA in Spanish), which came to the conclusion that they needed to be registered in the Central Registry of Foreigners with a "not specified" sex, as"non-binary" or with "X", as they have this recognised in their country of origin.

This is Mel Constain's master thesis, which "has as its objectives to explore, visualize, and analyse the lifehoods over the whole evolutional development within a Spanish context. This is an explorative study. The sample of 16 non-binary people is selected by an intentional stratified and snowball sampling. The techniques used are tales of life, the Anxiety and Depression Scale of Goldberg, the Corporal Self-Esteem Scale by Peris, and a Sociodemographic Survey. The analysis is made by thematic and statistical analysis. Also situated knowledge, reflexivity, and care, are used.

You can change your name and sex/gender with the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), even if you have not changed them at the Civil Registry. This may be especially useful for people with a non-Spanish nationality who cannot change their name and sex/gender in their country (and also not in Spain with the Trans Law), or for non-binary people or other identities in Spain for which the Trans Law does not apply.
