Cover of the master thesis

This is Mel Constain's master thesis, which "has as its objectives to explore, visualize, and analyse the lifehoods over the whole evolutional development within a Spanish context. This is an explorative study. The sample of 16 non-binary people is selected by an intentional stratified and snowball sampling. The techniques used are tales of life, the Anxiety and Depression Scale of Goldberg, the Corporal Self-Esteem Scale by Peris, and a Sociodemographic Survey. The analysis is made by thematic and statistical analysis. Also situated knowledge, reflexivity, and care, are used.
The results show a high experience of violence since childhood which sets off, specially starting at adolescence, the presence of anxious, depressive, and dissociative symptomatology. These stages are characterized by confusion, pressure, and the feeling of not belonging. The most noticeable experiences were bullying, silence, the lack of support and referents, the interpersonal and intrapersonal violence and misgendering. Because of this they develop different strategies to survive which are collected. Autodetermination is shown as a complex process and until the twenties the term is unknown. It is done in different ways according to the context and personal and social resources available. It facilitates self-esteem and depathologization, nonetheless cultural violence, structural binarism, and the encounter of two way of socialization (hegemonic and trans* with asterisk) leads to an ambivalence in their auto conception and current well-being. It promotes a continuous reflection/crisis and re-imagining of its past, body, sexual expression, and relationship.
In this study a global vision of this realities is presented, and it gives focus on the need for social transformation. Especially in the professional field giving proposals for said end. It is still necessary to know, sensitize, prevent, and intervene in the violence which infringe the fundamental rights of non-binary people."

If you are in the process of questioning your gender or are a non-binary person, of a native identity or otherwise of a non-normative gender, maybe this work is helpful. Unfortunately, only in Spanish.
