Non-binary people and desire

Hello, my name is Mel Constain, I am a trans non-binary, racialised and disca person.
I do academic activism and on the 19th of October I am presenting a paper at the IV Jornadas Nacionales de Sexología.
I want to talk about our desire, attraction and relationships as NB (Non-Binary) people living in Spain regardless of our place of origin. I also want to raise the need to know our experiences and how to generate sexological practices that do not (further) violate our experiences.

I know I am asking you to possibly open a Pandora's box. Therefore:

1. I will treat the data with great care, affection and without a look of judgement, appreciating how difficult it may be.

2. Breathe and feel, do this only if you can hold it in this moment and as far as you can hold it.

  • We are many even if it doesn't seem so, and activism is also about staying silent, taking care of yourself, surviving and not exposing yourself.
  • If you want to do it, take your space: a comfortable place, a cuddly toy, a fidget (an object to interact with and de-stress or regulate yourself), find something tasty to drink/eat and a trusted person to be with before, during or after.
  • Remember that you can stop and not finish it, it will be great too.
  • Remember that you don't have to answer everything
  • When you finish (either immediately or in a week), if you need to write me I am at melconstain@gmail.com

3. The data is anonymous unless you would like it to be different. It will be used for academic and activist-academic purposes. At any time you can revoke this (write to me and I will delete your data)*.

For the presentation I will use the data obtained in the research I carried out in 2020 on the identity development of non-binary people, my professional and personal experience, and the data obtained in this form. I use this form to be able to speak in a more updated way and to have a broader vision of what my environment can offer me.

If you have questions, suggestions or would like to generate a network of contact between enebé people who research or do activism, my email is always available.

I apologise if I make any discriminatory use of terms or form of expression, if so, I would be grateful for any comments so that I can continue to improve.

Structure

Let me tell you what the questionnaire will look like - if you don't need that level of structure you can go straight to the questions.

The form is divided into four parts:

  1. Socio-demographic question, your social profile.
    Approx. time: 3 minutes
  2. Me with me, i.e. what your process with me has been and is like.
    Time approx: 5-10 minutes
  3. Me with other people, i.e. relationships (not only on a sexual level but also on an affective or relational level, taking into account a broader perspective of sexuality and ace-inclusiveness).
    Approx. time: 5-10 minutes
  4. Me with the professionals. What I would tell them, what I fear and what red lines there are with the ‘professionals’ of sexology.
    Approx. time: 5 minutes

The questions are open-ended, whatever comes to mind - whether you think it is related or not - is fine.

I put some ideas or suggestions to facilitate those who need something more concrete or a thread from which to connect ideas.

You can deviate from the initial question and explore your sexuality in the text.

Approximate time between 20 - 30 minutes, depending on how much time you need and how much you want to expand your story.
